*phew* that was an intense 2 hours. I knew it would be, everyone had said it was a good movie but not a feel-good movie. But it was very well done. I loved the whole look of it. Very raw and gritty. And Clive Owen has really started to grow on my as an actor. I think the first few times I saw him, he played sort of weird characters (Sin City, Closer) so I didn’t care for him, but he did a very good job in this. Everyone did. A bleak vision of the future, but it all felt very real and plausible. I’m already on the wait list for the book, I’m very interested to see what the differences and similarities are.
Well, we just finished watching ‘Lady in the Water’. Yeah, I’m actually finding that I have no reaction to this film at all. I like Paul Giamatti, and I could watch him all day. He’s just a great actor. I think if it hadn’t been for him, I might have fallen asleep. I like Bryce Dallas Howard too, and this movie made me want to see her in something where she actually gets to act (Spiderman 3, don’t you make me take that back!). The entire cast of this film was it’s saving grace, lots of character actors that you’ve seen elsewhere that keep the screen alive even if the story isn’t. While I wanted this movie to be on the level of ‘Dark Crystal’, as far as creating a cool “new” fairytale, it ended up feeling more like ‘Splash’. It had some cute moments, but I think it just didn’t move fast enough. I really wanted to like it, but it just was….wait, what was I talking about?
Just finished watching this, and I have to say I was dissappointed. I really enjoyed ‘Best in Show’, ‘A Mighty Wind’ and pretty much all of Guest & Co’s other works. But this movie only had a few giggles. I think the problem was too much script. Instead of letting his team of improvisers go crazy with the subject, this movie seemed to have so much going on that they never got their moments. The best parts were with the spoofs of the entertainment talk shows. I’ll admit, I did jump up during John Krasinksi’s cameo because I didn’t know he was in it. And Ricky Gervais also carried his scenes very well. But a lot of this was just painful to watch. I wanted to laugh, I really did. But this one just didn’t do anything for me.
